Mental Health and Teen Suicide

Mental Health Statistics
Students will be shown different examples of graphs (circle, line, bar, pictograph) presenting data on mental health issues in Canada. The students will view and analyze the data and what it means to them. They will discuss it with partners, as a whole class, or reflect in their journals.
After being separated into groups, each one will inquire and research similar mental health statistics and data from a variety of different groups. (Italy, Japan, USA, upper classes worldwide, lower classes worldwide, men, women, etc.) After spending time researching, students will decide the best way to compile the data they collected and present it in their own graphs to share with the rest of the class.
Students will be assessed summatively with a class created rubric based on the depth of their research, the clarity of their graph presenting the data, and the quality of their presentation. They will also use a questionnaire to do a group and self assessment.
